hormones - July 2nd, 2009

Our bodies run by means of chemicals called hormones–its how the brain tells the different parts and functions of the body what to do and when to do it.  Unfortunately, we make thousands and thousands of new chemicals each year, and few of these are tested for human health.  These chemicals get into our food and water and into the air we breathe and get into us.  It is not a far leap of logic to think that the chemicals we take in might interfere with the chemicals that our bodies use for communication.

Women, perhaps, take the brunt of this because they are more complicated hormonally, and hormonal disturbance has a much more noticable effect.  So many women have fibermyalga or disturbance of the menstrual cycle.   Many have found that avoiding environmental chemicals by water and food choices, or taking measures to cleanse these out of their bodies have helped immensely.  There is no solid proof that this works scientifically because it is just too complicated a problem to study and come to any solid conclusions.  Its makes sense that chemicals not found in nature might mess with our natural chemicals to some degree.
